Scuba Diving at Capernwray

The nice thing about open water diving at Capernwray is that you are guaranteed to see some fish. And at weekends you are certainly guaranteed to see divers.

Capernwray - Great for open water training

Many qualified divers will have taken their first dive in open water in Capernwray. Its a good place to carry on your training and build confidence in your diving skills.

We like to use Capernwray for open water qualifiying dives because it has reasonably good visibility and things to see. First dives are normally a walk in entry down the slip before heading toward the training area. On your way in you will encounter the resident fish population as you adjust your buoyancy and get used to being in water a little deeper than the pool. Then its a look round at the platforms and the odd horse - you'll understand when you do it - before heading back for a surface interval before your next dive when you'll be asked to perform some of the skils you practised in the pool.

Why I dive in Capernwray

I use Capernwray because its an easy hours drive from where I live near Huddersfield. My favourite bit is off the reef because its not as busy and you get to the plane quickly. Its good vis because it not as busy off the beach side. At the minute I'm working on getting better at my buoyancy moving from single tank diving on to twin tank diving so that I can do some more adventurous diving. I've just been down to Tynmouth and dived the wreck of the steamer Bretagne. Lots of sealife, anemones crabs and a few fish. Good safe dive looking forward to the next one.
